American Sign Language Available at FMS Starting August 2019

Freeport Middle School is ecstatic to announce a new learning opportunity for our students! Beginning August 2019, FMS will offer American Sign Language as an elective course for students. Freeport Middle School believes in being innovative and is the FIRST middle school in Walton County to offer ASL as a course to its students!  Freeport Middle School supports diverse opportunities for our students to learn and fully embrace the development of the whole child. Before this course, students interested in ASL would have to take the course through a virtual platform. “ASL is a course that has been highly sought after by schools and districts. Learning languages such as ASL can boost cognition, hone communication skills, and encourage abstract thinking” (Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity). While offering ASL on campus, Freeport Middle School hopes to open the hearts and minds of our students to accept those who learn and communicate differently.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in our new American Sign Language elective, please contact Mrs. Chelsea Ellison at 850-892-1221 or email her at ellisonc@walton.k12.fl.us.
