We're nearing the end of National FFA Week! Students and staff dressed as their favorite animals (or in animal prints) today. Tomorrow's theme is "Farmer's Day Off," so be sure to wear your pajamas! Remember, students are not permitted to wear hats or anything that covers their face. School dress code still applies.

We'd like to give a shout-out to our boys weightlifting team! ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ They competed in the Oliver's Nursery Invitational at Baker School today. Their competitors included Baker, Destin, Walton, Pensacola Catholic, Fort Walton, Crestview, and Navarre, as well as defending 2A & 3A State Champs, Pace and Choctaw.
The top six were awarded medals for each weight class in the Traditional and Olympic categories. The following Walton lifters placed in the top six in their respective weight classes:
Orion Evans: 129 lb class / 5th in Traditional; Cameron Blackburn: 154 lb class / 5th in Traditional; Steven (Hoss) Doss: 238 lb class / 4th in Olympic & Traditional; Kelan Washington: HVY class / 3rd in Olympic & Traditional.
Way to go, Braves!

Classes at Walton High School are meeting the attendance challenge! Students miss valuable instruction when theyโre not in class, so this challenge was implemented to decrease absences and promote learning. When a class period has 10 days of perfect attendance, students are rewarded with ๐ฟpopcorn๐ฟ for โpoppingโ into class. (See what we did there?)
Thank you to our students (and parents/guardians) for the efforts theyโre making to be present and on time! We look forward to more classes meeting their attendance goals.

This week is National FFA Week! To celebrate, the Walton FFA Officer team has planned an agriculture-themed spirit week and a school-wide scavenger hunt. All students are invited to participate.
Students and staff dressed in camo attire today. The themes for the rest of the week are:
- Wednesday, Feb. 19: USA Day (wear red, white, and blue)
- Thursday, Feb. 20: Favorite animal / animal print
- Friday, Feb. 21: Farmer's day off (wear pajamas)
Students are not permitted to wear hats or anything that covers their face. School dress code still applies.
For the scavenger hunt, miniature rabbits are hidden around the school that students and staff can take to the ag classroom (170) and exchange for prizes. Please note that you can only search and turn in rabbits to the ag classroom between class periods.
We can't wait to see everyone participate this week! Please see Ms. Jackson if you have any questions.

We'd like to thank Clint Usher for his inspirational presentations this morning! The focus of his message was overcoming adversity on the road to success.

Mr. Carnleyโs and Mrs. Westโs geometry classes are โIn the Boat!โ These two teachers earned lapel pins for having substantial growth between PM 1 and PM 2. Walton High School is rowing towards an โAโ this school year!

Be sure to check out Superintendent Hughes's February update! He spotlights our beloved Mrs. Zodrow and her Intro To Teaching program/students! โค๏ธ https://youtu.be/8hSVToF21JM?si=f7eF9y74r-fpxpQN

Representatives from Emerald Coast Technical College and Northwest Florida State College were on hand to share information & answer questions, as well.
Weโd like to thank the following food trucks for providing yummy food and drink options for those in attendance:
- Travelinโ Tomโs Coffee Truck

- Brunch With A Twist

Our BECOMING A BRAVE event for our upcoming 9th graders was a huge success! Over 260 eighth grade students toured our campus on January 31. A lot of the students said their favorite part of the day was going through the Club Fair in the gym, where WHS students proudly shared ways to get involved next year.

In celebration of the 100th day of school, Ms. Leavins made 100 positive phone calls home on January 31. Teachers nominated students for this honor.

After collaborating with local and state weather experts, the Walton County School District has made the decision to close schools on both Thursday and Friday, January 23 and 24, due to the after effects of the Winter Storm. The closure includes students and employees, as well as SPICE and extracurricular activities.
The amazing snow fall will begin to melt today, but the precipitation may refreeze leaving ice on the roads for the next two days. This makes driving unsafe for buses on roads and especially bridges. Weekend weather will get above freezing, and we anticipate reopening on Monday, January 27. We will continue to monitor the weather, as safety is always our number one priority.
Stay safe, and continue to stay engaged with your schools and our online platforms for more information. We hope our students enjoy today's record snow fall. It really is an unbelievable sight!

After collaborating with local and state weather experts, the Walton County School District has made the decision to close schools on both Tuesday and Wednesday, January 21 and 22 due to a Winter Storm. The closure includes students and employees as well as SPICE and extra curricular activities. Walton may begin to see precipitation to include ice on Tuesday afternoon which will make it unsafe for school buses to be on roads and bridges. Wednesday may continue to see freezing temperatures which may keep ice on the roadways. We will continue to monitor the weather, as safety is always our number one priority. At this time, we expect to be back at school on Thursday, January 23. Stay safe, and continue to stay engaged with your schools and our online platforms for more information.

Congratulations to senior Emma Lathinghouse for being selected as the Walton High School nominee for the 2025 Taylor Haugen Award! ๐ Emma is a member of our cross country and track teams. She's a leader in the classroom, community, and multiple clubs & organizations on campus. Emma also serves as a student leader in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). She always has a smile on her face and is constantly looking for ways to serve her school and community, and we're so proud of her.

We'd like to give a shout-out to Ms. Harrison's Computer Fundamentals students! They're learning how to navigate (and thankful for) the newly-installed cybersecurity lab.

Hayden Arnold competed in the district FFA Discussion Meet contest this morning and placed 3rd! ๐ The FFA Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation is expected from each member. Participants demonstrate their discussion skills and develop a keen understanding of key agricultural issues through this competition. This was Hayden's first year competing in this competition, and he did an amazing job!

Our girls weightlifting team competed at the inaugural Walton County Championship on January 10. Allison Mooney is the Walton County champion in both Olympic and traditional lifting in her weight class, and Ava Edwards is the Olympic Champion in her weight class! Josie Lee, Emma Alford, Aliyah Peterson, Alyssa Mooney, and Montana Pickard all earned spots on the podium. Congratulations, Braves!

This year's Walton High School Culinary classes stepped up the game and created some very creative and complex designs! Students drew their own patterns, made the dough, and put it all together. So cute!

In Mr. Warren's economics classes, the students participate in Market Day as part of their end-of-year project. They apply all the economic principles they've learned throughout the year by creating a business, understanding supply and demand, and managing personal finances. The students thoroughly enjoyed this engaging project!
