On Saturday, October 19, our Leadership students set out bright and early to participate in the first Florida Civics and Debate Initiative (FCDI) competition of the year at Fort Walton Beach High School. This initiative aims to cultivate critical thinking, communication skills, and civic engagement among students across the state. Students from Escambia to Bay County showcased their talents in a variety of events, including Extemporaneous Debate; Impromptu Speech; Lincoln-Douglass Debate; and Congressional Debate.
We would like to congratulate Asher Sawyer for his outstanding performance, securing 2nd place in the Varsity Extemporaneous Debate category! Competitions like this not only highlight our students' abilities but also emphasize the importance of civic discourse in shaping informed and engaged citizens.
Congratulations, Asher!

Congratulations to Avril Garcia for earning "Best in Show" by the Walton County Art League for her self-portrait charcoal drawing for the 2024 Walton County Fair! ๐ The Walton County Art League is in honor and memory of Mr. Randall L. Infinger who managed the WCF for nearly 20 years. Additionally, Avril was awarded a $50 check for her amazing talent!

Mr. Wolferโs 2D Studio Art class got to experience the lovely sounds of live music performed by two very talented musicians and graduate students, Francesca Puro and Alex Lunday, from Florida State University, Tallahassee. The WHS art students would like to thank the musicians for a wonderful, educational experience. They thoroughly enjoyed hearing the live music being performed in their classroom.
This live performance is one component of the "Music in Pictures" program organized by the Rosemary Beach Foundation. A large percentage of the Walton County schools participate. The main component includes WHS art students listening to three classical compositions composed by Max Richter and creating works of art based on what they hear in the music. The artwork will then be judged, and the chosen works will be recognized at the award ceremony in April.

On Sunday, four of our FFA members checked our agriculture department's rabbits into the Walton County Fair. Our black otter Holland Lop (Jacob) won 3rd place, and our broken black tortoiseshell Holland Lop (Jasper) placed 5th! On Wednesday night, our FFA members competed in the rabbit showmanship contest. FFA members must examine their animals from nose to tail and demonstrate their knowledge on all things rabbits. Our FFA members had a very successful night! Rhylie Upton placed 2nd with Zeus (Dutch); Emma Alford placed 4th with Alice (Lionhead); and Hayden Arnold placed 5th with Jacob (Holland Lop). Lacey Reeves did an amazing job showing Jasper (Holland Lop) for her very first show! We are so proud of our FFA members and rabbits! ๐

The boys golf team earned 1st place yesterday against Paxton, Freeport, Holmes County, and Ponce de Leon! They'll play their final regular season match (before the district tournament) tomorrow. Brody McCormick had the top score of 80. The girls were also in action and earned 3rd place. โณ๏ธ Go Braves!

On Friday, October 11, three of our FFA members attended the rabbit show at the Panhandle Youth Expo in Marianna. Rhylie Upton showed our agriculture program's Dutch rabbit (Zeus); Emma Alford showed our Lionhead (Alice); and Hayden Arnold showed one of our Holland Lops (Jacob).
For showmanship, FFA members must examine their rabbits in front of the rabbit judge. The members are looking at the structure and health of the rabbit during their evaluation. They must also show their knowledge of all things rabbits by answering questions asked by the judges. The questions can range from the breed and age of the rabbit to how to identify common diseases in rabbits.
Hayden was named the Senior showmanship champion; Rhylie was named the Reserve Champion in showmanship; and Zeus placed 3rd overall in show! It was an awesome show day for our FFA members!

The Senior Class of 2025 would like to take a moment to express our thanks to everyone who has supported us throughout past and present homecoming seasons.
First and foremost, to our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and siblings, your dedication has not gone unnoticed. From helping build floats and painting signs to providing food and drinks, your love and effort have fueled us every year and we are deeply grateful.
We also want to extend our appreciation to our community - the village that helped raise us.
A special thanks to the DeFuniak Springs Police Department for graciously allowing us to use your facilities for the past three years to prepare for homecoming. Your continued support means the world to us.
Thank you to Fisherโs Pharmacy & Gifts and Sodalis Living Facility for letting us borrow some of your amazing decorations for our float and hallway. Your generosity helped bring our vision to life.
A heartfelt thank you to the Parker and Whitehurst families! Not only did you feed us (more than once), but you made countless trips to the store, spent hours of your time helping us build floats throughout the years, and helped to keep us focused through all the chaos. Your dedication, time, and effort have not gone unnoticed, and everything youโve done is truly appreciated by all of us.
A special shout-out goes to The Tipsy Pig BBQ for serving us some of the best barbecue weโve ever tasted! Not only did you ensure that everyone got a full plate, but you also made sure we would have food through the week.
We would also like to take this time to thank the senior sponsors who showed up and supported us through countless sign paintings, float buildings, and skit practices over the years. We couldnโt have made it through the homecoming weeks without your guidance and help, particularly the freshman and sophomore years.
Everyoneโs support, encouragement, and generosity have made this last homecoming unforgettable. We are so lucky to have been raised in such an incredible community that has never failed to show up and support us, even when there is a hurricane headed our way.
Thank youโฆfrom the bottom of our hearts. โค๏ธ

It was an exciting day for our Advanced Placement Research students! They had the incredible opportunity to tour the University of West Floridaโs cutting-edge research facilities today. From hands-on learning experiences to meeting with esteemed faculty, our students got a firsthand look at what it takes to excel in the world of academic research. This experience has truly inspired them to think beyond the classroom and dive deeper into their future academic pursuits. Weโd like to thank UWF for hosting us!

AP psychology students play with sidewalk chalk! This activity invites psychology students to step outside the classroom and engage with the structure and function of neurons in a fun, hands-on way. Using sidewalk chalk, students collaboratively draw and label various parts of a neuron, such as the cell body, dendrites, axon, and synapses. As they create their chalk art, students discuss each part's role in transmitting signals and the importance of neurotransmitters in communication between neurons.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated September 15 to October 15 and honors & recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino people in the United States. Walton High School's Spanish Club members celebrated and honored this observance today by wearing their countryโs or favorite countryโs traditional clothes, sport jerseys, or colors.

On September 9, Mr. Ed O'Daniels visited with our Agriscience Foundations students. Mr. O'Daniels shared his experience as an ecologist with the FWC (Fish & Wildlife Conservation). Our students learned about the different aspects of ecology and how to prepare for a career in ecology...and they even got to pet a bear! We'd like to thank Mr. O'Daniels for visiting with our agriculture students!

Thirty new Key members were welcomed into the club by their big brothers and sisters today. We're all excited to have them in our club and see what fun activities this year has in store!

Math is an integral part of our everyday livesโฆeven in agriculture! Today, our Agriscience Foundations classes began their Agricultural Mechanics unit by learning the values of each line on a ruler, all the way down to the 1/16th! Students then tested their skills by finding different items around school to measure. Understanding the different measurements is crucial to successful projects. Our Agriscience Foundations students will use the skills learned in this unit on various projects in the coming months, including the building of our chicken coop!
