Art in the Capitol Contest!
Each year students from grades 6th-8th compete to have their artwork chosen to represent Walton County in the Art in the Capitol competition. This year’s winner is our very own FMS bulldog, Itzel Ruiz!
Itzel is a talented 8th-grade artist who is a part of the FMS Advanced Art course. Her award-winning piece “Prince” is a colored pencil portrait drawn on a vinyl record. This piece is a wonderful example of working from observation, using proportion and value to achieve realism. The use of the vintage record as a drawing surface creates a connection to repurposing and recycling, as well as emphasizing the link between music as both an art form and a source of inspiration.
Itzel’s art teacher Ms. Cawiezell says “Itzel is very talented and works hard to go above and beyond the expectations of every project.” Itzel has also sold artwork through the ArtsQuest art fair, has received ribbons in previous Walton County art shows, and has received multiple Artsonia awards for the work curated in her digital portfolio.
Itzel’s work will be on display in the State Capitol from January 9, 2024 – March 1, 2024. Congratulations to this outstanding artist.
We are very proud of Itzel Ruiz for her amazing artwork and for this incredible accomplishment!
